Your residence could burn from an unattended or poorly planned open burning situation !! Drought conditions make the problem much more hazardous.  This summer has been hot and dry, and for this reason, timber and ground foliage will catch fire and spread quickly.

Did you know that it is illegal to burn leaves, garbage, or other debris within 1000 feet of any residence ANYWHERE in Ohio ??
Did you know it is completely illegal to burn trash, construction materials, etc.
Did you know you MUST obtain a burn permit from the Chardon Fire Dept. prior to burning ANYWHERE in Chardon Twp, Claridon Twp., or the City of Chardon ?
In many municipal areas, such as Chardon City, it is illegal to burn, except for recreational fires (with hotdogs, marshmallows, etc.)

Many people burn simply because they are ignorant to the law.  Please stop by the station for a burn permit before you burn.  IT'S THE LAW.  This will allow us to explain the laws governing open burning, and assure that any legal burning you do is performed safely.  Help us protect our residents and their property.

-Deputy Fire Marshall Bill Crowley
