FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chardon-Windsor & Kile Road intersection is the scene of another serious accident

6/2001 -- Claridon Township, Ohio

The Chardon & Middlefield Fire Departments responded to another serious car accident at the intersection of Chardon-Windsor & Kile Roads on June 22nd.  The accident had eerie similarities to another fatal accident that occurred in July, 2001, in which two girls were killed when their car missed a stop sign southbound on Kile Road.  The girls had been returning from a local water park, and were unfamiliar with the area.  This accident was almost identical, as a car with occupants returning from the park also missed the same stop sign.  In each of the accidents a victim was pinned for over an hour, as multiple sets of hydraulic tools were used to free the victims.  Thankfully, however, no one died in this latest accident.

Two victims were taken to MetroHealth Trauma Center by Life Flight helicopters, while a third was later Life Flighted to a Cleveland hospital for serious injuries from a nearby hospital.  The Geauga County Engineer is reviewing the intersection, but has indicated that he is unsure anything further can be done to fix the lightly-traveled intersection, as both accidents involved drivers unfamiliar with the road, who failed to heed traffic signs.  He is going to further investigate the intersection, however.
