Chardon FD Takes Delivery of New Command Car "3382"

6/2002 - The Chardon Fire Department recently took delivery of a new 2002 GMC Yukon truck.  This truck will be used by the fire chief and duty officers to respond to and command emergency scenes.  It is designed to provide the incident commander with all the tools necessary for running a prolonged emergency event.  Features of the truck include an on-board laptop computer (to plot pre-plans, area GIS maps, hazardous plume evacuation charts, etc.), a rear speaker and portable radio charging system for multiple radios, SCBA air pack/Turn-out gear, documentation area, and more.  The unit features a state-of-the-art electrical and lighting system including low band, VHF, and 800 system radios, a Tomar strobe bar, hidden strobe system, & new LED lights to the rear (when the rear hatch is raised).

This vehicle replaces a 1992 Ford Explorer, which will be refurbished, and used for non-emergency fire prevention work by our Fire Prevention Bureau.

Special thanks to all of the fire personnel who donated MANY hours getting the vehicle decaled, wired, and ready for service.
