FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Tower Ladder 3349 dedicated to Asst. Chief Tom Hummel, Sr.
12/2003 - Chardon, OH In a moving, emotional ceremony, the Chardon Fire Department proudly dedicated a new 2003 Sutphen Tower Ladder truck to the memory of former Asst. Chief Thomas Hummel, Sr., who died on the same date two years ago. Friends, family members, former co-workers, and municipal dignitaries packed the apparatus bay of the Chardon Fire Station to remember the legacy of a true local hero. Tom's son, Asst. Chief Tom Hummel, Jr. spoke briefly to convey the family's gratitude and thoughts of "days gone by". Many current fire department members gave testimonials to the man who so many saw as a "shining pillar of the community of Chardon". The ceremony was then followed by an opportunity for attendees to see the ladder truck at work, towering 100 feet above the station. Memorabilia, old hand carts and fire trucks from Chardon Fire history were also on hand for the two hour ceremony.
