FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
City of Chardon installs Opticom Traffic Light Preemption devices at major intersections for emergency vehicles
The 3M Opticom Traffic Preemption system works when a special flashing light, mounted on emergency vehicles, signals the traffic lights at an intersection to change. This facilitates allowing the emergency vehicle safer passage through the intersection. Within the City of Chardon, special blue flashing lights will activate above the traffic lights to warn drivers of an emergency vehicle approaching. 1/2005 - Chardon, Ohio The City of Chardon has installed a 3M Opticom Traffic Preemption System to facilitate safer passage of emergency vehicles through intersections. The system is activated when special lights, mounted on the emergency vehicles, signal the system to change the traffic lights at an intersection. This allows the emergency vehicle to go through the intersection without as much worry of cross traffic. When activated, the system's blue lights will flash above each traffic light to indicate imminent arrival of an emergency vehicle at that intersection. If you see the blue lights start flashing, watch and listen for the approach of a fire, rescue, or police vehicle. Per Ohio Revised Code, pull to the right, as far as possible, and remain there until the vehicle has passed. Keep in mind that more than one emergency vehicle may be coming through the intersection. Thank you for helping us get to our emergency scenes safety.
