Art has been with the fire department for over 40 years!! He has served under 6 fire chiefs (John Maynard, Lou Rickard, Phil King, Ed Brick, Ron Jonovich, and Larry Gaspar). Art has held the offices of Asst. Chief, Lieutenant, Captain, and Honorary Captain (a rank which he will always hold). His service has included two terms as President, and at least three terms as Trustee. Prior to 1971, Art served a number of years for the then Village of Chardon on two boards, which no longer exist; the Cemetary Board and the Board of Public Affairs. In addition, at one point in time, Art completed a term on the Chardon Village Council to fulfill the remainder of a term vacated by a gentleman who decided to resign. In the department's 75th anniversary commemoration, Art was awarded a plaque 'In Appreciation of Outstanding Service' to the Chardon Volunteer Fire Department. When he retires, the badge represented by the #3, being the number assigned to him for all these years, will be permanently retired in his honor. When asked to summarize his 40 years, he states, "During the course of 40 years, it has been an honor and a privilege to serve with both former and current members of such an outstanding fire department. Words cannot express how much it has meant to me to be a part of the CVFD. I plan to continue to serve in whatever capacity I can, so long as my health will allow. I hope my service in the future will always be a valuable contribution." Congratulations, Art.
