FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chardon Fire responds to another Chardon Plaza fire at "Hand Me Ups" store

Fire crews battle a fire in the rear of a store in Chardon Plaza

11/2006 - Chardon, Ohio

In an eerie replay of the 1999 Bostwick's Hardware Store fire, Chardon Fire personnel were called to an early morning fire in the rear of a consignment clothing store, called Hand Me Ups, located in Chardon Plaza. The November 24th fire caused extensive damage to the store, however adjoining stores were only smoke damaged, thanks to fire walls.  The fire was located only two stores from the '99 fire, which also started at the back of the store in the early morning hours. Both fires have been ruled arson.

The fire was discovered around 5:14am, and the initial Chardon fire crew was there within 4 minutes of the alarm with an engine and squad.  In similar style to the '99 fire, personnel found heavy smoke and fire at the back of the building in a second floor office area.  Automatic mutual aid units from Hambden (engine) and Munson (ladder) took the rear "C" side.  Chardon's engine, Tower Ladder, and other units took positions in the west "A" side. The fire seemed like a well orchestrated drill, as many units staged or setup in the same places they did 6 years ago.
