FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Hospital awards Chardon FD crew with "EMS Crew of the Year" Award

Chardon EMS Crew Of The Year awardees (from left) Firemedic Kenny Pritt, Capt. John Blauch, Firemedic Theresa Meros, and Chief Larry Gaspar accepting on behalf of Capt. Adam Georskey.  Hospital and area dignitaries were present for the special awards presentation at UH Geauga Medical Center. which celebrated National EMS Week.

5/2007 - Chardon, Ohio

Four members of the Chardon Fire Department were recently honored by UH Geauga Medical Center for their actions on a trauma call in rural Geauga County.  The crew received the distinction of "EMS Crew of the Year" for their efforts in saving a man from bleeding to death from a severe neck wound caused in an accident.  The on-duty crew of Capt. Adam Georskey, Capt. John Blauch, Paramedic Theresa Meros, and Paramedic Ken Pritt responded to the accident.  They immediately summoned Cleveland Metro LifeFlight to meet them at UH Geauga Medical Center, while attempting to stop the bleeding and establishing IV lines.

The UH Geauga hospital staff then teamed up with the trauma center crew from Metro LifeFlight to find the bleeding vessel, and save the man's life.  While grateful for the recognition, each member of the Chardon crew insisted that it was "just part of their job", and that any member of Geauga's safety forces would have done the same.  "The key here was the combined efforts of the Sheriff's deputy first responder, the fire/EMS crew, the hospital personnel, and the Metro LifeFlight staff.", said Capt. John Blauch. "The teamwork exhibited here is a clear example of the reason for National EMS week; supporting each other in time's of crisis.", he said.

Each crew member received a glass award, while the Chardon Fire Dept. name was inscribed on a plaque hanging in the hospital ER.  Another plaque is to be mounted in the fire station in Chardon.
