FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Chardon Fire personnel train on County Mass Casualty Trailer

The Geauga County Mass Casualty Trailer was brought to Chardon Fire Dept. to train personnel.  The trailer was also present at the spring Maple Festival.

6/2007 - Chardon, Ohio

Chardon Fire Department personnel recently trained on the new mass casualty equipment obtained by Geauga County Dept. of Emergency Services (EMA).  The equipment and trailer were obtained using a grant from the Department of Homeland Security.  Each department also received SMART Triage kits containing initial triage tagging materials for 1st due vehicles, while incident command supplies were placed in Chardon's command car and primary engine.   This standardized the triage system for Geauga and Cuyahoga Counties.

The bulk of the equipment is contained in plastic tubs inside the trailer (see above), which is stationed at the Burton Fire Dept., in the center of the county.  The trailer is on-site at all major crowd events, such as the Maple Festival and Geauga County Fair.  It can be brought by Burton FD personnel upon request to any Mass Casualty Incident.

We believe this is one more example of how Homeland Security dollars ARE being put to some good use via local first responders.
