2000 - On-Scene with Chardon Fire

(FYI - This page will take a few moments to load, as the pictures are in medium/high resolution.  Most scene pictures are taken with a Sony Handicam Camcorder mounted in Engine 3322. The 8mm film is then processed through a computer and still shots are obtained using Dazzle Video 80 software. Picture quality is affected by windshield glare, long play resolution, etc.)

Dec. 2000 - Above:  Firefighter/EMT Kevin Shea cools down some hot spots after a school bus caught fire in December 2000.  The fire was caused by an electrical problem on the bus.  The bus was a total loss.

Oct. 6, 2000 - Above:  Capt. John Blauch, Firemedic Kevin Carroll, and Firemedic Chris Grossman load an 11 yr. old boy onto Cleveland Metro LifeFlight.  The boy was struck by a car, while getting the family's mail on Chardon Rd. (SR 6), near the Kirtland border.  Chardon FD was assisted by Kirtland Fire Department, who responded to the same call.  The boy fully recovered.

July 31, 2000 - Above:  This was the initial scene as Chardon Engine 3322 arrived at the scene of a house fire on Kile Rd. in Claridon Twp.  The fire is then knocked down by the attack crew (notice the water and smoke coming out he front window).  The residents were alerted by glass breakage, but they escaped unharmed.  The house had smoke and heat damage.  The fire is still under investigation.  Mutual aid was received from Hambden, Burton, and Montville Fire Departments, as well as the Geauga County Fire Investigation Unit. Is your smoke detector ready for a battery change?

July 22, 2000 - Above:  A mini-van and compact car collided on Rt. 44 at Hosford Rd. on July 22nd.  Four people were involved, but only one sustained injuries that required hospital care.  Seatbelts and airbags were the main reason for the positive outcomes.  Alcohol was involved in this accident.  Jackstands, made by FF/Medic Scott Meyer, are stabilizing the gray vehicle.

June 14, 2000 - Above: A bolt of lightning knocks out power to parts of Chardon Village and Hambden Township, as wind and lightning strikes wrecked havoc on the Lake and Geauga County area June 14th.

June 19, 2000 - Above: Chardon FD personnel work to remove the driver of a two car accident at the 9100 block of Ravenna Rd. The vehicle's roof was cut open with the "jaws" to remove the victim, who suffered moderate injuries..

May 11, 2000 - Above: Captain Phil Treadway & Firefighter Mike Homovec attack a pavilion fire at Skeeter's 19th hole eatery on May 11th, 2000.  The pavilion, covered in vinyl, ignited during a pig roast. The structure was a total loss. For more awesome pictures of this fire, click on www.gcdes.com/fire

June 7, 2000 - Above: Firefighters Scott Meyer (with hose nozzle) Kevin Carroll, Mike Homovec, and Capt. Phil Treadway fight a fire on the rear axel of a semi hauling a backhoe.  The fire was contained to the rear of the truck.

June 7, 2000 - Above: A Chardon crew uses the "jaws of life" to free a victim from his vehicle, which crashed on Thwing road, near the Lake County border.
