On-Scene with Chardon Fire (2004)
(FYI - This page will take a few moments to load, as the pictures are in medium/high resolution. Most scene pictures are taken with a Sony Handicam Camcorder mounted in Engine 3322. The 8mm film is then processed through a computer and still shots are obtained using VideoWave (Analog) software. Picture quality is affected by windshield glare, long play resolution, etc.)
Above: December, 2004 - Over 1.5 feet of snow then rain, caused many roof collapses, including this car port collapse on a mobile home at Jacques Trailer Park on SR. 322 in Claridon Twp. No one was hurt in any of the collapses. Picture taken with Kodak CX4200.
Above: November, 2004 - One man died in this high speed accident, when his Mercedes lost control on SR 6 in Chardon Twp. The driver was not wearing a seatbelt and was ejected from the car. Pictures taken with Kodak CX4200.
Above: September 16, 2004 - Three people were critically injured after a three car collision at SR 44 & Clark Road in Chardon Twp. 3 squads were required to transport the victims after extended extrications. Concord Fire Department assisted with extrication and transport. LifeFlight was unable to fly due to thunderstorms. Picture taken with Kodak CX 4200.
Above: July, 2004 - No one was hurt when this car was rear ended by a van on South St. near Bass Lake Road in the City of Chardon. Firemedic Rachel McCummins checks to make sure no one was injured. Note the rear of the car in the upper left picture! Pictures taken with Kodak CX4200.
Above: July, 2004 - One woman was critically injured when her car went off the road and down an embankment, into a creek, on Taylor-Wells Road in Claridon Twp. Crews used the TNT jaws, stabilizing ropes, and cutting tools to free her from the overturned SUV. Metro LifeFlight was called to the scene to transport the patient to a trauma center. Above: June, 2004 - A man was critically injured when his car was involved in a high speed accident on SR 44 at Hosford Road. Cleveland Metro LifeFlight transported the patient to a trauma center. Pictures taken with Kodak CX4200.
Above: May, 2004 - The driver of this overturned car received only minor injuries when he lost control on Auburn Rd., south of Hosford Rd. in Chardon Twp. Note the roof damage on the upper right picture. Airbags and Seatbelts SAVE LIVES! Pictures taken with Kodak CX4200. (The date on the picture is incorrect)
Above: March, 2004 - Chardon Fire personnel use a fork lift to remove a "reaction chamber" filled with burning Zinc powder. The chamber contents ignited when a stirring motor failed, causing the reaction to go out of control. No injuries were reported, and the chamber self-extinguished in the cold temperatures. Above: February, 2004 - A residential fire in an extended chimney caused damage to a newer home on Chardon Ave. in the City of Chardon. Fire personnel dismantled the outdoor chimney to be sure the fire did not extend into the house. No one was injured. Pictures taken with Sony Camcorder.
