On-Scene with Chardon Fire (2006)
(FYI - This page will take a few moments to load, as the pictures are in medium resolution. Pictures are taken with a variety of cameras including a Sony Handicam Camcorder mounted in Engine 3324 & a Kodak 4900 series digital camera. The 8mm analog film from the engine is then processed through a computer and still shots are obtained using VideoWave (Analog) software. Picture quality is affected by windshield glare, long play resolution, etc.)
Above: December, 2006 - A stubborn house fire near a hot chimney at a Kile Rd. address in Claridon Twp. brought apparatus from Chardon, Munson, Hambden, & Burton. The fire was contained to a small area, and no one was hurt.
Above: November, 2006 - A working fire at the "Hand-Me-Ups" consignment store in Chardon Plaza went to the third MABAS box alarm, in 20 degree temperatures. It brought over 13 departments from Lake & Geauga Counties. No one was injured, and the fire has been ruled ARSON. If you have information on this fire, please call 440-286-6123. A $5,000 reward is being offered.

Above: October, 2006 - No one was hurt in this car vs. deer accident on SR 608, south of Chardon-Windsor Rd. Seatbelt use helped keep the car occupants safe. Picture from Kodak C-300.
Above: August, 2006 - The City of Chardon made national headlines when a heat wave caused a power substation to explode, causing the evacuation of several nursing facilities. Above, residents are evacuated in the middle of the night, while the Sheriff's Radio Interoperability Vehicle handles command duties on the hot pavement of the fire station. Above right: July, 2006 - The drainage creek at Wintergreen Dr. and Ravenna Rd. gives only a small indication of the record flash flood that sent Chardon personnel to Lake County to assist in a disastrous loss of property. Above: June, 2006 - Fire investigators look at an early morning fire in the back of this Cynthia Dr. home. It was knocked down by a quick thinking resident with a garden hose. The fire was started accidently, when a flame contacted a gas can on a lawn mower at the back of the structure. Hambden and Munson Fire personnel assisted. Picture taken with Kodak C-300.
Above: June, 2006 - A bicyclist was critically injured when he was struck from behind by an auto on SR 6, west of All Souls Cemetary. After hitting the biker, the driver of the car lost control, striking a gas line. The situation was brought under control and Cleveland Metro LifeFlight transported the patient. Above: May, 2006 - Mentor Road near Stratford Ridge. This vehicle left a trail of destruction, as it flipped and caught fire when the motorist lost control. Fire crews knocked the fire down with an 1 3/4" attack line. Notice the utility pole has been sheered off by 6 ft. at the base, leaving the pole on the ground, hanging by just the wires. Alcohol and speed played a role in this accident.
Above: February, 2006 - An early morning industrial fire at Rhein-Chemie Corp. in Chardon City brought a full response from Chardon, Hambden, Munson, and Concord Fire Departments. The fire was quickly extinguished and no one was hurt.
Above: January, 2006 - Winter driving became treacherous on Mentor Road in Chardon Twp., as this motorist lost control. There were no serious injuries.
